IDEA superintendent is highest paid across the entire state

After 19 years in business, IDEA Public Schools (a charter-school network) is first in the state in terms of superintendent salary. According to the most recent report released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), its superintendent, Tom Torkelson, is getting paid an annual salary of $450,000. That’s to oversee what IDEA describes as the fastest-growing network of approximately 51 tuition-free, Pre-K-12 public charter schools in Texas.
Last school year, Torkelson’s salary was $350,549, according to TEA figures released last spring.
